Marcus Browne demands a rematch with Jean Pascal!
Former Interim WBA/WBC silver light heavyweight titlist “Sir” Marcus Browne (23-1, 16ko) is looking to get a rematch with WBA “regular” champion Jean Pascal (35-6, 20ko). As always, social media was the platform where phase one of negotiations started.
THE FALL FROM GRACE
Browne in early 2019 was sitting on a golden ticket after defeating former WBA “regular” champion Badou Jack. He had two options on the table to fight then-champions, WBA “super” Dmitry Bivol or WBC champion Oleksandr Gvozdyk.
Looking to add to his resume, he decided to face the veteran former champion Pascal back in August. This decision quickly backfired!
The former champion was victorious and just like that, everything for the 29-year-old New York southpaw plummeted like the 2008 stock market!
Furthermore, being the interim WBA champion at that time, the defeat was costly. The organization later elevated regular champion Bivol to “super” status, making Pascal the “regular” champion. Browne had to be sicker than a kid that ate too much candy.
CURRENT EVENTS
The 37-year-old Canadian successfully defended the title against former Browne victim Badou “The Ripper” Jack on December 28. It was a razor-close split decision victory and marked the second top tier fighter the aging champion has defeated in 2019, including Browne.
However, a familiar face was seen ringside at the fight. Browne was in attendance, possibly doing a little scouting and after the fight took to social media.
Well, I think by now everybody understands how this goes. Better believe there was a response – Pascal’s manager G. Leon clapped back.
In the words of KRS1, “we not done,” at this point, it became a hard-hitting back and forth affair. Even the WBA champion chimed in, making it clear he wants all the smoke.
It is quite odd for Browne to claim Pascal is “scared to fight him” when the rejuvination of the WBA “regular” champion’s career really started with a knockout win over the New York native.
