Bruce Carrington Stops Carlos Castro to Become WBC Champion!

To kick his year off in style, Brooklyn-born and interim WBC featherweight champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (17-0, 10 KO’s) defeated Carlos Castro (30-4, 14 KO’s) with an emphatic ninth-round knockout. Included in the spoils of war, Carrington took possession of the vacant WBC featherweight title that was up for grabs.

Preceding the knockout, Carrington definitely had his work cut out as the fight was a rather even, nip-and-tuck affair throughout. To his credit though, the tight combinations and clear discomfort being caused by Shu Shu’s punches were seriously eye-catching. Even still, the Brooklyn fighter was notably buzzed in the fourth with a thudding right hook up top. After weathering this brief storm, Carrington would take control and slowly press the gas until ultimately securing the stoppage.

During his post-fight interview, a jubilant Shu Shu called out all fellow champions Rafael Espinoza (WBO), Angelo Leo (IBF) and Nick Ball (WBA) to unification showdowns. It will definitely be interesting to see if anyone out of this trio will answer this challenge.
