Yan Santana Beats Cruz by UD; Carrington Gives a Thumbs Down

In his latest tour of duty, featherweight contender Yan “Dangerous” Santana (17-0, 13 KO’s) had a somewhat tough night in the office. Despite the opposition, Santana nabbed a unanimous decision over a game Cristian “Lacandonsito” Cruz (24-8-2, 12 KO’s). The victory came to the tune of 96-94, 97-93 and 98-92. Unfortunately, WBC featherweight champion Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington didn’t see anything worth noting.

Heading into the duel with Cruz, Santana, who is ranked #7 (WBO), was making a big hoopla about facing “Shu Shu” (17-0, 10 KO’s). In fact, Dangerous was hopeful to put the whole division on notice with this performance.

On this side of the outing however, this may not have been the audition that Santana set out to make. It will be interesting to see if Team Santana recalibrates and aims for a parallel-level fight. Or, will they opt to continue chasing the big names and checks with Shu Shu? For whatever its worth, Carrington seems to have already expressed his opinion on the matter in a post during Santana’s bout.
