Carrington Targets A Title Fight With Nick Ball

Top featherweight contender Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (14-0, 8KO) placed a target on the back of WBA featherweight champion Nick “The Wrecking” Ball (22-0-1, 13KO). He quickly took to social media, requesting a shot at the title. (tweet here)

The Wrecking is coming off a win over former super bantamweight champion TJ Doheny. Ball delivered a kick, a throw down, and got deducted a point in rough contest. He pummeled the Irishman until the corner stopped the fight after the tenth round.

In his second title defense, Ball fought extremely aggressively and landed hard shots throughout the contest. However, his fighting style is perfect for the WBA’s #2 rated contender in Shu Shu.

Carrington can fight on the inside, box at mid-range, works well behind the jab, and is a good counter-puncher. Moreover, he has shown improved ring IQ and defense, using the angles to perfection. Also, let’s not forget he likes to attack the body and throw uppercuts, which Ball is susceptible to.

In this author’s opinion, Carrington would win the fight by a wide margin in the later rounds. It’s not to say the Brit won’t put up a good fight, but Brooklyn native would use that height and reach advantage to pull away.

First, Carrington must take care of business against Enrique Vivas on March 29.
