Bruce Carrington Wins a Technical Bout with Sulaiman Segawa
In a featherweight showdown, Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington (13-0, 8KO) earned a tough win over Sulaiman Segawa (17-5-1, 6KO).
Don’t let Segawa’s record fool you as the Ugandan came to fight. He hit Shu Shu with a hard countershot that wobbled him a little in the second round. In addition, he had Carrington on the back foot which opened up scoring opportunities for the straight left hand.
Yet, Carrington turned things around in the middle rounds with hard shots to the body. Fighting in front of the home crowd, he pressed forward behind the jab and solid counter righthands. He even switched to southpaw and managed to nullify Segawa’s offense, momentarily.
Both men were successful with their offensive attack, as this became a technical battle of the minds. Segawa boxed nicely off the back foot in the closing rounds, which may have cost him the fight. Although Carrington didn’t land anything significant, he won the fight by being the more aggressive fighter down the stretch.
When the final bell sounded, one judge scored it 95-95, and two judges saw it 97-93, in favor of Carrington.
