Chantelle Cameron Publicly Responds to Accusations From Ellie Scotney
Undisputed junior welterweight champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (17-0, 8KO) has responded to accusations levied by IBF mandatory super bantamweight champion Ellie Scotney (6-0).
On March 12, boxing fans received big news that the fight between undisputed champions Katie Taylor and Cameron was a go for May 20. Il Capo took to social media requesting the fight, after hearing original opponent Amanda Serrano had to pull out of the rematch.
After being ordered to fight IBF super bantamweight champion Cherneka Johnson, Scotney was given another honor by being added to the undercard of Taylor-Cameron. It seems the story will not have a completely happy ending. The mandatory challenger took to social media to accuse Cameron of having her removed from the card.
This caught the attention of the boxing community as fans, trainers, and fighters all chimed in. Some immediately sided with Scotney, while others felt there had to be a reasonable explanation.
CAMERON TRIES TO EXPLAIN THE SITUATION
Cameron responded with a lengthy statement trying to explain her side. However, she couldn’t reveal everything due to an NDA she had previously signed.
The undisputed champion is heading into the biggest fight of her career. She needs to be laser-focused against a fighter of Taylor’s caliber. Without being able to hear the full story, it’s hard to get a complete understanding of the situation.
Scotney does have a silver lining, for the fight is not canceled, and she is still fighting for the title. Of course, one can understand her frustration with being removed from such an important event. Hopefully, both women can move past this and capitalize on their upcoming match-ups.
