Can Xu to make first title defense on home soil!
Can Xu was an unknown underdog from China when stepping into the ring to face Jesus Rojas in January 2019. The match was foreseen as a relatively easy title defense for the then WBA World Featherweight champion.
However, Xu had a different plan.
After 12 rounds, he would upset Rojas to become the new champion. Further, the fight was impressive enough to be an early candidate for fight of the year.
Performing far better than anyone anticipated, the little known fighter from China left his imprint not only on the Houston fight crowd, but made all boxing fans take note that he’s a fighter to definitely keep an eye on.
Now a world champion, 3KingsBoxing has learned Xu (16-2, 2KOs) will make the first defense of the title in his home country against Shun Kubo of Japan (13-1, 9KOs) on May 26th in Fuzhou, China.
Kobu is a former WBA Super Bantamweight champion. Having lost the belt by ninth round stoppage to Danny Roman in September 2017, he is on the comeback trail. Moving up in weight, the hard-hitting southpaw will be fighting on enemy territory.
