Oscar De La Hoya taking shots at everybody!
When it comes to former boxer turned Golden Boy Promotions promoter Oscar De La Hoya, there is little doubt that he has issues with break-ups. Seven years ago his chief executive officer Richard Schaefer abruptly jumped ship. Even worse than losing the influential mouth piece, Schaefer would go on to take a huge chunk of the Golden Boy Promotions roster with him. To add insult to injury, Schaefer funneled those fighters into the Premier Boxing Champions stable. The fledgling company was just storming the public consciousness and definitely needed the manpower.
More recently, Golden Boy Promotions took another huge hit when their golden goose, unified super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, parted ways. This was not so great a shock as there was clearly a rift between Alvarez and De La Hoya. When questioned about it in public, neither would speak on the matter, careful not to add fuel to the fire. Yet, it was very evident that they did not have a happy working relationship. So when Canelo aligned himself with DAZN and Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing, no one was caught fully off guard.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!
Unfortunately for Oscar De La Hoya, whether the split with Canelo was a surprise or not, it was still a critical blow to his company. Sure, he did not lose as many fighters as he had when Schaefer stole away into the night. At the same time however, De La Hoya does not have any other fighter, or ten fighters, that equal Canelo’s name or market value. It is no secret that the redhead is literally the face of boxing right now. That is not something that one can merely snap their fingers and readily replace.
Even worse Golden Boy had worked painstakingly to build up Canelo’s reputation and place in the sport to what it is now. Watching him walk away surely put De La Hoya in a sour mood. If that was ever in doubt, the Golden Boy put those thoughts to bed himself. In a recent social media post, the former world champion heavily criticized Canelo on a bevy of technical issues.
Naturally this public attack was bound to draw a great deal of attention. However, the most inflammatory thing that De La Hoya did was accuse Canelo Alvarez of ducking the Charlo brothers. He even went so far as to tag one of the brothers. Unfortunately for De La Hoya, he tagged the wrong one! Unsurprisingly, the younger bother, Jermell Charlo, was quick to correct the Golden Boy on his glaring faux pas.
STICK IT WHERE THE SUN DON’T SHINE!
Along with Jermell Charlo, Canelo did not fail to bitterly respond to his former promoter. Although, the redhead went a little below the belt in more ways than one, in his retorts! In the second response, which read, “do me a favor and go fuck yourself,” he inserted a frying pan and number of household kitchen utensils. On the one hand, this could be viewed as nothing significant. However, on the other hand, this is could be interpreted as coldblooded an insult as they come.
Three years ago, De La Hoya was ensnared in a blackmailing scheme by two women. The Golden Boy had met with the women, then invited them back to one of his residences. Once behind closed doors, the three adults engaged in all manner of activities. Yet, apparently a portion of those acts involved De La Hoya allowiing the two women to perform sex acts on him with various…kitchen utensils.
Later, the women would try to siphon $2 million dollars from De La Hoya to keep the tape private. Ultimately the whole ordeal went public and even the FBI was brought in to instigate the matter. Yet, this is all said to say Canelo was very deliberate when jamming in those particular emojis! It will be very interesting to see how, or if, De La Hoya continues this brief social media feud with Canelo. If he does, he needs to get much cleverer in a hurry. This is because, as it stands, there is no doubt he is losing his back and forth badly!
