Canelo Alvarez vs Gennady Golovkin 2: It’s Done

Alvarez vs Golovkin 2 to take place on May 5th

3KingsBoxing.com has learned that an agreement has been reached between the teams of Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin for a rematch to take place on May 5th.

The two are coming off of a controversial draw back in September. While it has taken a little longer than expected to work out some details it was really the only fight that made sense for either guy.

There was speculation that with Canelo being promoted to the number one ranking by the WBO that a fight between him and Billy Joe Saunders could potentially happen but Golden Boy president Eric Gomez says that was never really an option.

According to our sources within both teams the bout is likely to take place once again at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas although we were told Madison Square Garden is still possible. An official announcement is expected to come soon.

As for a possible trilogy? “It’s going to be another great fight, so it’ll likely be a natural to do another rematch, but it’s not in the agreement,” Gomez said.

  1. Smart move would have been to wait GGG out a while longer, let him get just a little more order, if possible but with the way Saunders looked, Charlo being number one for GGG and 154 pounds being plagued by a few killers.. Seems like Canelo and Golovkin have no other choice.. The immediate rematch is definitely an advantage for Golovkin
