Canelo and Haney Shouldering the Blame Their Foes Deserve
William Scull and Jose Ramirez should come under fire for boring fights against undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and two-divisional champion Devin “The Dream” Haney.
During Cinco De Mayo weekend, boxing fans were left with a bad pill to swallow as the fights were extremely uneventful. The fights that were the most lackluster were Canelo vs Scull and The Dream vs Ramirez.
Haney constantly moved around the ring and barely looked to fight. It was clear the two-divisional champion was looking to protect a big fight payday in the rematch against Ryan Garcia. However, Ramirez should come under fire for not cutting off the ring. Being a former unified junior welterweight champion, he should have done more to force Haney to stand and fight.
In the case of Alvarez, Scull was uninterested in fighting and fought like someone looking to collect a paycheck. Although the Mexican didn’t cut off the ring, the Cuban did get blamed for not wanting to fight.
The winner should never get criticized for a boring fight. The loser should receive the majority of the blame.
