Oscar scraps Golovkin rematch, again
The on again off again saga of The Canelo Alvarez-Gennady Golovkin rematch negotiations has appeared to finally come to an conclusion. Not a good one either.
Apparently we won’t be seeing a sequel to the first fight that had a controversial decision. Golovkin didn’t budge off the 50/50 split demanded for the rematch.
Oscar had enough and decided to break off talks for good according to ESPN. Now this leads to who Alvarez fight next?
Well we may have an answer Oscar De la Hoya told Espn that the “Canelo train has left”. He also said that he’s in negotiations with Eddie Hearn to match Alvarez up with Daniel Jacobs. Hearn confirmed that “an official was made and we’re happy with everything about this fight.” ‘official’, as in offer.
This would be a very good intriguing fight for both men, Jacobs is coming off of a unanimous decision victory over Maciej Sulecki in April.
For Alvarez if this fight is finalized, this would be his first fight of 2018 and it would be coming off of a self inflicted year long layoff due to him testing positive twice for Clenbuterol, which caused the cancellation of their May 5th rematch.
If the fight is made it’s likely to take place September 15 on Mexican Independence Day in Las Vegas.
