Carlos Takam takes unanimous decision against Jerry Forrest
A late replacement for disgraced heavyweight Jarrell “Big Baby” Miller (23-0-1, 20KOs), former world title challenger Carlos Takam would fill in against Jerry Forrest (26-4, 20KOs).
Taking this fight on two weeks notice, most people didn’t know what to expect from Takam; that includes his opponent Forrest! Normally known as a brute, come-forward pressure fighter, Takam came out boxing!
In the opening round, he immediately came out pumping the jab and throwing the right hand to the chest of his southpaw opponent. Forrest, full of confidence leading up to this fight, fought every way except confident.
A lack of punch output would plague Jerry Forrest, as Takam constantly beat him to the punch. The latter fighter started to mix up his attack, connecting with left hooks on his opponent. Round five would see Takam take the fight on the inside and rough up Forrest. Forrest would elect to hold and clinch instead of punch.
Forrest had success in round seven as he landed some nice left-hands that caught the attention of Takam. Takam appeared to be bothered by a cut over his right eye and the onset of fatigue. Rounds eight and nine continued to go in the favor of Forrest as he continued to outwork a clearly fatigued Takam.
After being urged to go for the knockout Forrest, came out flat in the tenth and final round. Takam appeared to be more active in the final round, which could be the deciding factor in the win.
Takam would earn the win by unanimous decision with the scores of 98-92, 97-93 and 96-94! He would improve his record to 39-5-1, 28 KOs.
