Scott Quigg will face Jono Carroll
3kingsboxing can confirm former WBA junior featherweight champion Scott Quigg (35-2-2, 26ko) will square off against former junior lightweight title contender Jono “King Kong” Carroll (17-1-1, 3ko).
This is a big fight for both men, especially if they want to remain relevant in a bid to get back into the title picture.
THE HARD ROAD TRAVELED
Quigg has had some ups and downs in the sport. After being moved from Interim champion to the regular champion status, the organization would later place then-WBA “super” champion Guillermo Rigondeaux as champion in recess to allow the British champion to face fellow countryman IBF champion Carl Frampton in a unification bout in February 2016.
Losing the first fight of his career, two years later in 2018, the former champion moved up to featherweight. There, another title opportunity presented itself against WBO champion Oscar Valdez.
Once again falling short in 2019, along with an injury that saw him sit out all of that yaer, and slipping out of the rankings, things didn’t look promising for the British fighter. Finally returning in 2020, the former champion is hoping to get things back on track.
KING KONG RETURNS
Carroll came up short against IBF champion Tevin “American Idol” Farmer back in early 2019. He would bounce back with a victory against Eleazar Valenzuela in Mexico. This is a great opportunity to make a huge jump in the ranking with a victory against a former champion.
The Ireland born boxer spoke to 3kingsboxing, expressing the importance of this moment.
“Listen, this is going to be the best King Kong anyone has seen. I’m going to be smart in this fight. I’m going to use my brain and when needed, I am going to step in and fuck him up.”
Catch the fight at the Manchester Arena, Manchester, UK, on March 7.
