Castaño vs Lara in play for January!
Undefeated WBA regular junior middleweight champion Brian Castaño (15-0, 11KO) could face the toughest opponent of his career in early 2019. Reportedly, he is targeting Erislandy Lara; the former WBA super champion.
Regarding the matter, Castaño’s manager said the following:
“The WBA granted a special permit to Castaño to defend his title against Lara.”
“We’ve been told by Al Haymon that it will happen hopefully in January.”
Castaño compiled a record of 181-5-5 as an amateur. He beat the the likes of current welterweight champion Errol Spence, as well as 2012 Olympic Medalist Esquiva Falcao.
Lara (35) is coming off a grueling loss to Jarrett Hurd in their unification bout in April. This fight is intriguing because it will tell us where the two men are currently in their careers.
Is Castaño a legit player at junior welterweight or a product of perfect match making? Also, is Lara past his prime or still very much a viable contender?
If this fight happens, those questions will surely get answers. We can only keep an eye on the situation as it develops.
3kingsboxing.com will continue to monitor the situation and provide any updates as they become available.
