Cecilia Braekhus vs Terri Harper Has Been Rescheduled

The boxing gods have struck again as the fight between WBA junior middleweight champion Terri “Belter” Harper (13-1-1, 6KO) and former undisputed welterweight champion Cecilia “First Lady” Braekhus (37-2, 9KO) has been rescheduled for May 27 due to illness.

BRAEKHUS BREAKS THE BAD NEWS TO THE FANS

The morning of the fight on May 20, The First Lady took to social media to deliver the heartbreaking news that she fell ill with the flu.

“Everyone Cecilia here. I just woke up this morning with the flu. Headache, fever, ear, nose, throat, and the whole thing. I felt great yesterday at the weigh-in. I’m Just heartbreaking, gutted for Terri Harper of course.

“Sorry to all my fans. I still want to thank Matchroom and Terri for giving me this chance to fight her. I hope we can come back and do this real soon.”

Matchroom Boxing has added the fight to the rematch between WBA featherweight champion Mauricio Lara and Leigh Wood on May 27.

Braekhus, going into the contest, wanted to prove she is still an elite fighter with a victory over the WBA champion. Harper was ready to put on a dominant performance for her first title defense.

Murphy’s Law, “if anything that can go wrong will go wrong” is a familiar situation fans deal with regularly in the sport of boxing. With both women wanting to make a statement on the under-card of the undisputed versus undisputed mega-fight featuring Katie Taylor vs Chantelle Cameron, it’s unfortunate the fight was canceled hours before their showdown.
