EUBANK AND KOROBOV TO FIGHT FOR INTERIM WBA TITLE

Now that all the pre-fight obligations have been satisfied the Chris Eubank Jr (28-2, 21 KO’s) versus Matvey Korobov (28-2-1, 14 KO’s) prizefight is officially a go. Their bout will serve as the co-main event for the Charlo v Hogan WBC title fight. Each man made weight on their first attempt without issue. Eubank Jr. came in at 159.4, while Korobov tipped the scale at 159 even.

During the build-up, both Eubank and Korobov expressed interest in securing a fight with WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo. Korobov has the added motivation of avenging his 2018 loss, although both men want a shot at Charlo’s hardware. This is why each man was pleasantly surprised to find out that their upcoming prizefight had been upgraded to a title fight.

Apparently Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (53-1-2, 36 KO’s) has vacated his 160lbs WBA world title since his bout with light heavyweight boxer Sergey “Krusher” Kovalev (34-4-, 29 KO’s). With the belt having no master, the sanctioning body opted to put the interim title up for grabs. With this news, each contestant was supplied even greater motivation to come out victorious. Eubank Jr. is making his US debut in the recently named title fight.

CHARLO AND HOGAN ARE GOOD TO GO

In a very loud and boisterous weigh-in ceremony, both Jermall “Hit Man” Charlo (29-0, 21 KO’s) and Dennis “Hurricane” Hogan (28-2-1, 7 KO’s) made weight without mishap. The WBC world middleweight champion Jermall Charlo came in almost right on the button weighing 159.8. Challenger Hogan tipped the scales a hair lighter at 158.4.

Throughout the pre-fight activities and interviews Hogan has consistently said that there will be an extremely strong Irish presence at the fight. Judging by the support that he had in the weigh-in, this was certainly no lie! The function was saturated with Hurricane fans who loudly chanted ‘Hogan!’ throughout the proceedings. It will certainly make for a lively scene if this energy carries over to fight night.

For his part, Charlo remained largely unfazed by the energetic Hurricane fans. Not only was he not paying the crowd too much mind, the Hit Man warned Hogan that he would find himself fighting for his life instead of the belt!

Upon hearing the thinly veiled threat on his life Hurricane Hogan attempted to get in Charlo’s face. However, various team members would prevent him from doing so. Given the temperament of the crowd, and the fighters, Saturday’s main event is sure to deliver on action and excitement!
