Barrientes Picks Up Flawless Scorecards Over Contreras
In a super bantamweight prospect showdown, Chavez “The Beast” Barrientes (10-0, 6KO) was flawless on the scorecards against Noah Contreras (9-2, 4KO).
Being the taller fighter, The Beast worked well behind the jab and used the reach advantage to score a knockdown in the opening round.
Contreras got up and over the next couple of rounds, tried to apply pressure and started landing solid countershots. However, his lack of head movement made him a perfect target for Barrientes’ power jab.
Realizing his opponent couldn’t avoid the jab, Barrientes picked up the pace. He managed to feint Contreras into position for a hard counter-hook.
As the fight continued, the undefeated fighter went into attack mode. He pressed forward with combination punches before dropping Contreras with double left hooks in the sixth round.
After scoring more knockdowns, Barrientes easily won the fight as all three judges scored it 80-69. It was a good showing for the Hawaiin native, who showed good ring IQ and never let his opponent gain any momentum.
The super bantamweight division is one of the best divisions in boxing and Barrientes looks to have a bright future.
