Kim Clavel Wants The WBO Title Included In Plata Unification
In women’s boxing, the junior flyweight division is about to go through a power shift. When two-divisional unified champion Yokasta Valle decided to vacate the titles, it opened the door for an opportunity for WBC champion Kim Clavel (16-0, 3KO) and WBA champion Jessica Nery Plata (28-2, 3KO).
Valle defeated unified junior flyweight champion Evelin Bermudez on November 26. Because she is also a unified champion at minimumweight, the WBO gave her 10 days to decide which division she would remain in.

Originally, Clavel was going to fight Plata on December 1. However, their battle was postponed due to health complications of Clavel and rescheduled for January 13, 2023.
This cancellation set off a chain of events that may have influenced Valle’s decision to maintain the unified titles at minimum weight. The WBO reported that the two-divisional unified champion has vacated both titles, leaving them up for grabs.
CLAVEL WANTS THE VACANT TITLE INCLUDED IN HER FIGHT
So now, the organization must decide who will fight for the title. Bermudez would love to get a chance to regain the titles. But, Clavel has proposed that the WBO make their belt part of the unification with Nery.
There is a chance that could happen, considering the organization has thrown the vacant title in a fight before. One example that comes to mind is when the WBO belt was inserted into the undisputed junior welterweight bout between Chantelle Cameron and Jessica McCaskill on November 5.
It will be interesting to see what the WBO’s decision will be in the upcoming weeks.
