Conor Benn Solidifies WBC Ranking with Regis Prograis Victory

In his latest at-bat, newly established welterweight fighter Conor “The Destroyer” Benn (25-1, 14 KO’s) beat former super lightweight champion Regis “Rougarou” Prograis (30-4, 24 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. When the cards were read, Benn bested Prograis to the tune of 98-92 on all three cards.

In a somewhat criminally negligent turn of events, Benn was not presented the opportunity to stage a post-fight interview. This could have been influenced by the fact that his recently abandoned promoter, Eddie Hearn, was ringside. Withstanding, there technically should be little confusion in terms of the direction The Destroyer would like to move in. With his entry into the 147-pound landscape, the UK import was gifted the red-carpet treatment by the WBC. This came in the form of his #1 WBC ranking.

Armed with this rating, Benn is in prime position to challenge the recently-crowned WBC 147-pound champion, “King Ry” Ryan Garcia (25-2, 20 KO’s). Garcia lifted the WBC strap off of former champion Mario Barrios this past February 21. Now, Benn and Garcia have the opportunity to merge their large fanbases to stage a significant payday with one another.

If this duel does come to fruition, the elephant in the room would certainly be drug testing. Not only did both fighters pop dirty for PED’s, each supplied extremely zany and far-fetched explanations as to why they were flagged. Let’s see what the two teams offer the public in the upcoming days and weeks.
