Terence Crawford Continues to Push For Errol Spence Fight!
Unbeaten WBO welterweight champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KOs) is continuing his pursuit of unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (27-0, 21KOs).
Crawford stopped two-time welterweight champion Shawn “Showtime” Porter (31-4-1, 17KOs) on November 20. Ever since, he has been very vocal about wanting to face the man viewed as his equal. The former Top Rank fighter is now a free agent. This means the possibility of the long talked about Spence-Crawford unification bout are the best they have ever been.

Furthermore with the upset loss of IBF mandatory Kudratillo Abdukakhorov (18-1, 10KOs), Crawford has angled to be named the new mandatory. Crawford took to his Twitter account requesting the IBF make him Spence’s mandatory. The Omaha, Nebraska native is leaving no stone unturned. He clearly wants nothing more than to finally get Spence in the ring and settle who is truly the best fighter at welterweight.
Will his efforts be rewarded by the IBF? That remains to be seen, however, I wouldn’t bank on that happening. The number two ranked contender is Shawn Porter who’s now retired. Followed him are Jaron Ennis at #3 and Vergil Ortiz at #4. Regardless of what the IBF decides to do, the route will be extremely difficult for Spence.
He hasn’t fought since defeating Danny Garcia in December 2020. Also, the unified champion is coming off eye surgery for a torn retina that took him out of his scheduled August fight against Manny Pacquiao.
While you have to respect his efforts, it appears that if he’s going to face Spence, it’s going to happen by them negotiating a deal the traditional way.
