Terence Crawford Perceives Israil Madrimov to Be a Tough Foe

When Terence “Bud” Crawford (40-0, 31 KO’s) gets in the ring, there will be real suspense for many throughout the boxing community. For pundits and casuals alike will all be asking: has the three-division, two-time undisputed champion finally bitten off more than he can chew? Certainly this is what his opponent, WBA junior middleweight champion Israil “The Dream” Madrimov (10-0-1, 7 KO’s), and his corner will tell you.

Yet, Crawford has not remained undefeated for sixteen years, across three divisions while riding a current 11-fight knockout streak by taking shortcuts or underestimating his opposition. Nor is he willing to make that mistake now, entering into this new territory against such a ferocious fighter. These were the sentiments that he shared with Fight Hub TV in a brisk Q&A.

“He’s a great fighter; he’s tough, he’s hungry, he’s durable, he’s athletic. He’s got a lot of experience in the amateur rankings. But as you can see, he’s a champion with only eleven fights. So that tells you a lot about his skills right now!”

RABBIT FEET AND SHOE HORNS

For the gamblers and superstitious alike, there is the fun fact that whenever initially challenging for a belt in a new division, Crawford has competed for the WBO title. Obviously, as he is the champion, Madrimov’s WBA strap will be on the chopping block. Yet, also up for grabs, is the interim WBO title.

True, it’s a bit watered down due to Sebastian Fundora being the full WBO champion. At the same time, securing the interim belt puts Bud on the fast track to facing Fundora, who also holds the WBC title. So taking possession of the interim title would be far more than owning a mere trinket, but rather a power play to position himself potentially two fights away from being undisputed a third time.

TIME TO SHOW AND PROVE…AGAIN

Naturally, Crawford will only get a shot at Fundora if he can first get past Madrimov. Coming full circle, with all this on the line within the 154-pound borderlines or the potential dream fight versus Canelo Alvarez at 168, has Bud pushed too far?

When all the fur settles and blood dries, will Bud’s boxing wizardry and nasty penchant for stopping quality boxers persist and shine anew? Or, will Crawford’s power and stamina finally hit a wall and succumb to Madrimov who is seven years his junior? Thankfully, these pressing boxing questions will be answered in very short order! Just make sure to tune in on August 3!

“I’m only worried about one person and Israil, I am not overlooking this guy. This is a tough opponent; it’s going to be tough come Saturday. And I am not overlooking anyone right now or even worried about anybody.”
