Terence Crawford Willing To Face Vergil Ortiz Jr Next

The boxing community is sitting back, waiting to see when or if the undisputed battle between unified welterweight champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (28-0, 22KO) and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KO) gets made. However, if the fight doesn’t happen for any reason, Crawford is interested in fighting the WBO’s #1 contender, Vergil Ortiz Jr (16-0, 16KO).

Although fans are watching with intense enthusiasm hoping the fight for undisputed gets made, there has to be a contingency plan just in case. Furthermore, both champions will need to fight top contender with a big name to ease the anger of boxing fans.

Spence reluctantly may have to face former unified champion Keith Thurman since he is ranked number one by the WBC. As for Crawford, a fight Ortiz Jr is one fans would get behind.

Ortiz Jr is highly ranked by all four major sanctioning bodies. Yet, his number one ranking with the WBO is the key factor. Moreover, this is an intriguing situation considering Bud had no interest in fighting Ortiz Jr not too long ago.

The young undefeated contender called out the WBO champion after dispatching former junior welterweight champion Maurice Hooker in 2021. Fans were beginning to turn up the heat after Ortiz Jr annihilated former foe of Crawford’s in Egidijus Kavaliauskas.

A CHANGE OF HEART?

Crawford was dismissive of fighting the #1 contender when asked about it during the Ortiz Jr vs Hooker card on DAZN. Now, he seems to have a change of heart. During an interview with Fighthype, Bud was open to fighting Ortiz Jr, if the Spence fight regrettably fell through.

“Of course, Of course, why wouldn’t I? Vergil is a great talent, like I said before. He’s very strong, he hits hard, he’s technically sound, and it’s going to take a guy like me to beat him.”
