Interim WBC Champ Carlos Cuadras Eyes Estrada Trilogy Fight

Newly crowned WBC Interim super flyweight titlist Carlos “Principe” Cuadras (41-5-1, 28KO) could be on the verge of a trilogy fight with WBC champion “El Gallo” Juan Francisco Estrada (44-3, 28KO).

Cuadras has tried and failed on several occasions to win back the title he lost to Roman Gonzalez in 2016. With the opportunity to fight for the title a third time, Cuadras put on a stellar performance against former WBC light flyweight champion Pedro Guevara.

Despite scoring two knockdown and controlling the pace down the stretch, Cuadras won the fight via split decision. Guevara was given one scorecard of 115-111 for his efforts as he fought hard from start to finish.

THE HARD ROAD TRAVELED BACK TO A TITLE SHOT

The championship has eluded the Mexican plenty of times. In 2020, he was stopped in the eleventh round in the rematch against Estrada.

After taking an extremely long layoff, Principe challenged for the vacant belt once again in a losing effort against two-divisional champion Jesse Rodriguez.

El Gallo has been out of the ring following a trilogy with familiar foe Roman “Chocolatito” Gonzalez in December 2022. He is rumored to be on a collision course with WBA champion Kazuto Ioka for a New Year’s Eve battle.

Cuadras is once again back in title contention. Depending on how things play out between Estrada and Ioka, he could find himself competing for two titles.
