Daniel Roman eyes Angelo Leo v Stephen Fulton winner for WBO belt!

Former unified super bantamweight champion Daniel “The Babyfaced Assassin” Roman (28-3-1, 10KOs) let it be known prior to the WBO Super Bantamweight title fight between Angelo Leo (20-1, 9KOs) and Stephen Fulton (19-0, 8KOs) that he wanted the winner. He made the declaration via his Twitter account, while also wishing both men the best of luck.

Roman reigned as WBA champion from 2017-2019. He would unify titles by eking out a close victory against TJ Doheny (22-2, 16KOs) to win the IBF title. The following year, he would go on to face Murodjon Akhmadaliev (8-0, 6KOs) where he would lose his titles by a split decision. His most recent ring outing came against former WBA bantamweight champion Juan Carlos Payano (21-5, 9KOs); a bout he won by unanimous decision.

IN TITLE POSITION!

Roman is ranked in all four sanctioning body organizations. He is ranked number three by the WBO, number six by IBF, number two by the WBC and, number three by the WBA. With Stephen Fulton claiming the WBO title over Angelo Leo by unanimous decision, Roman is sure to move up one spot as the number two ranked contender behind Michael Conlan.

Nothing is guaranteed in terms of a title shot for Roman. Although, he is well positioned to possibly get a title shot at some point in 2021 at one of the four sanctioning bodies titles. His experience, solid skills and heart pose a threat to many of the guys in the super bantamweight division.

WILL HE AND FULTON RUMBLE?

Roman is in prime position for a shot at newly crowned WBO champion Stephen Fulton. However, let’s not get too excited. Fulton made it clear to Showtime’s Brian Custer that his sole focus is on becoming the undisputed super bantamweight champion. With no belt, Roman will likely not get the attention of the Philly fighter unless he becomes the mandatory challenger.
