Daniele Scardina Looks For Payback In Giovanni De Carolis Rematch
In boxing, one defeat can be a major setback in a fighter’s career. Super middleweight Daniele “King Toretto” Scardina (20-1, 16KO) is dealing with this exact situation as the rematch with former WBA ‘regular’ champion Giovanni De Carolis (31-10-1, 15KO) is rescheduled for March 3, 2023 according to Italian News FPI.
The Italian fans will have to wait a little longer, hoping to cheer their favorite son to victory.
A COSTLY UPSET
On May 13, Scardina was upset by the elder statesman De Carolis and it had a serious domino effect on his career. King Toretto was racing up the ranking holding down the IBF #8 and WBO #9 spots.
In 2019, he captured the vacant IBF International title by defeating Henri Kekalainen. This before grabbing the EBU European title against Cesar Nunez in 2021. He caught the attention of some boxing insiders after becoming the second man to stop Juergen Dobersteir for the vacant WBO Inter-Continental title.
Scardina’s fight with De Carolis was supposed to have been a “tune-up” en route to a possible championship run. He has since been knocked out of the rankings, and the long layoff has not been helpful.
The 30-year-old Italian must win the rematch in dominating fashion if he wants to recapture his position. The division is beginning to heat up as serious competition awaits. A title shot will get harder for Scardina to obtain the longer he stays out of the ring.
