Darius Fulghum Beats Vaughn Alexander On The Cards
Super middleweight prospect Darius “DFG” Fulghum (12-0, 10KO) defeated replacement fighter Vaughn “The Animal” Alexander (18-12-1, 11KO) in an uneventful fight.
DFG was getting caught with some of those counter-shots from The Animal. He fought more conservatively as the crowd started to boo due to the lack of aggression from both fighters.
Fulghum came alive in spots with solid uppercuts and shots to the body. If he were to step on the gas and push the elder Alexander, it would have been a more entertaining fight.
Over the next couple of rounds, Fulghum landed shots but didn’t sit down on those punches. Later, it was revealed the Texan was complaining about his right hand hurting, which would explain the lack of commitment on the punches. As the fight was coming to a close, Fulghum used the jab, left hook, and occasional body shot to close the show.
When the final bell sounded, two judges scored it 98-92, and one had it 99-91 in favor of Fulghum. Despite getting the win, he failed to impress in this fight. Even with a possible hurt hand, the Texan needed to make more of a statement.
