David Morrell Digs Deep For The Victory Over Radivoje Kalajdzic
In his eleventh professional bout, David “Osvary Morrell” Morrell ( 11-0, 9 KO’s) beat Radivoje “Hot Rod” Kalajdzic ( 29-3, 21 KO’s) by way of unanimous decision. With the victory Morrell snagged the vacant WBA regular light heavyweight title with the spoils of war. Throughout the majority of the first half of the match Morrell toggled between applying naked pressure and laying on his back foot to entice Kalajdzic to come forward.
This ping-ponging tactic worked to various results. Overall, the more experienced Hot Rod maintained his confidence and began making more of a fight of the duel during the middle rounds. While Morrell notably increased his pressure over the second half of the prizefight the contest maintained its neck-and-neck feel.
Down the final stretch however, Morrell was able to display the heavier visible shots and controlled the overall action more efficiently than Kalajdzic. Evidently this was what he needed as the bout went to the judges. When the cards were read the Cuban won by unanimous decision to the tune of 118-110 and two by 117-111.
