Former Olympian Keyshawn Davis Snags Fourth Pro Win Over Jose Zaragoza
In his most recent in-ring assignment, former Olympian and lightweight boxer Keyshawn “The Businessman” Davis (4-0, 3 KO’s) concluded a busy 2021 with a solid win. Davis accomplished this endeavor by deflating and stopping Jose Zaragoza (8-4-1, 2 KO’s) in the first round.
Davis had an interesting year due to both, turning professional and competing in the Olympic Games. While he did not capture the gold medal as he wanted to, due to being defeated by Andy Cruz, Davis did walk away with the silver medal.
On the professional side, Davis, 22, has put in a fair amount of work, with his win over Zaragoza being his fourth of the year. It will be interesting to see what the Businessman can put together for himself in 2022. The loss effectively shattered a three-fight winning streak that Zaragoza was enjoying since losing to Fernando Molina on November 21, 2020. So, instead of finishing the year flawlessly, the gritty Mexican will now return to the drawing board to regroup.
BODY SNATCHER
The first round was a one-sided avalanche in favor of Davis. For the first half of the round, he proceeded with tactical caution behind his jab. Yet for the last ninety seconds of the period, he tore into Zaragoza with nasty uppercuts and vicious body shots.
His obsession with the body abuse only blossomed in the second round. With his hands held so up high as they were, the Businessman delighted in tossing crackling hooks to the rib cage.
In the final minute, Davis caught Zaragoza with a head-snapping right uppercut and two left hooks to the body that dropped him to the floor. He would get up and soldier on, but not for long. Shortly later, a picture-perfect left hook to the liver popped Zaragoza’s ability to stand like a balloon. On this trip to the canvas, however, the Mexican writhed, grimaced and rolled around clearly like he’s been knifed in a prison yard. To his credit, he did rise to his feet.
Despite his courage though, Zaragoza still wobbled around like he was suffering a potent snakebite. This was all referee Charlie Fitch needed to see before calling a halt to the action. Even though this was far from the fiercest of opponents, this was an excellent performance for Keyshawn Davis.
