Gervonta Davis Misses Weight! Almost Causes A Riot!

Well, for his first official weigh-in in the Atlanta, GA region, Gervonta “Tank” Davis (22-0, 21 KO’s) sure caused a mighty big splash. Unfortunately for him, it was not the type impression he was shooting for.

To begin, Davis would show up what some might deem to be fashionably late to the event. While this is not so much of a big deal, missing weight is, and that’s exactly what he did once on hand.

TOO CHUNKY ONCE AGAIN

His Saturday December 28 bout with Yuriorkis “El Ciclon de Guantanamo” Gamboa (30-2, 18 KO’s) will mark Davis’ first foray into the lightweight division. Trouble is, Tank came in more to the tune of a junior welterweight!

When Davis did step on stage, he officially tipped the scales to 136.2lbs, leaving him one hour to make the 135lbs limit.

UPDATE: Davis was able to weigh-in within the hour at 134.8 pounds. This would allow the fight to go on and the title still be at stake for both men.

This is the second time that Davis has missed weight. Back in 2017, Davis similarly came in notably heavy for his prizefight with Francisco Fonseca (25-2-2, 19 KO’s) which ultimately cost him the IBF junior lightweight title.

Following the weigh-in process, during the stare down, Davis suddenly and unexpectedly shoved Gamboa. The act caused the large crowd at hand to erupt.

After several minutes of shoving, pushing and calling for order over the mic, calm was restored without any further major incidents.
