Gervonta Davis dazzles in homecoming bout against the over-matched Ricard Nunez.
WBA super junior lightweight champion Gervonta Davis did exactly what he was supposed to do as he took out mandatory challenger Ricardo Nunez in two rounds.
In the opening round, Davis came out patiently looking to break down his opponent. He repeatedly threw straight left-hands to the body of Nunez.
The conclusion would come in round two. The champion would score a hard, overhand left that hurt Nunez in close quarters.
This came as a consequence of Nunez neglecting to protect himself in the clinch. A few punches later, and that was all she wrote!
Referee Harvey Dock would halt the action after Nunez suffered multiple blows that went unanswered by him.
With a successful homecoming bout now in the books, Davis will hopefully target fellow junior lightweight champions Tevin Farmer, Miguel Berchelt and Jamel Herring.
However, if not any of those guys, Yuriokis Gamboa is a potential opponent. He looked very good knocking out former champion Rocky Martinez in two rounds, prior to Davis defeating Nunez.
