Oscar De La Hoya responds to Gennady Golovkin’s callout of Canelo Alvarez!

Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya put former unified middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin on notice!

The former champion literally “steamrolled” Steve Rolls in his first fight since losing to current unified champion Canelo Alvarez in September 2018.

It didn’t take long for talks of a trilogy to kick up amongst the boxing community. Given how he destroyed the underdog, many fans wonder if “big drama show” is back!

Oscar however wasn’t impressed and decided to take to social media and stoke the fire with a verbal jab.

Oscar De La Hoya Tweet Post GGG vs Rolls
Oscar De La Hoya tells GGG what he should do to get Canelo again.

It’s public knowledge that ever since signing boxing’s biggest star in Alvarez, DAZN was just as eager to get Golovkin in hopes that a third fight can be made on their platform.

Inside the boxing community, the argument of “who really won,” is something that has kept the interest in the idea of one more fight alive. In addition, it’s still financially one of the big fights in boxing that can be made.

LOOKING DEEPER

The most interesting part of the original Golden Boy tweet is the phrase “win a belt!” What makes that stand out so vividly is there is only one belt left (WBO) that is currently being held by Demetrius Andrade.

Andrade has been vocal about fighting Canelo or Golovkin on a number of occasions. In all actuality, the latter was the reason he moved to middleweight in the first place.

MOVING FORWARD

If there is to be an undisputed champion in the division then Canelo or the winner of the third fight will have to fight the slick southpaw fighter from Rhode Island. Granted he is still the WBO champion.

De La Hoya knows his biggest money maker is in the best position and is already sending out demands if the 37 year-old Kazakh fighter wants to get another big payday bout.

Will it happen? Is it still worth our attention? These are only a few hot topics fans and pundits will engage into for the next few days.
