James DeGale vs Rocky Fielding in Negotiations

DeGale Eyeing a Legacy Fight with Fielding

A domestic U.K. clash between WBA “Regular” Super Middleweight champion Rocky Fielding and former IBF champion James Degale could be on the rise.

Jamie Moore, Fielding’s trainer, told Ringside Toe to Toe Podcast, that the potential bout is in the “really, really early stages.” He also added:

“I don’t think we can jump the gun just yet, but Rocky fancies it and if James Degale does, and we can do a deal, then I would be more than happy with that fight.”

Fielding, who is on a six-fight winning streak, won the WBA “regular” title in July when he scored a 5th round TKO over former undefeated titlist, Tyron Zeuge in Germany.

DeGale, however, seems to be on the last leg of his career. He suffered an embarrassing defeat to journeyman Caleb Truax in December of 2017. DeGale returned for an immediate April rematch. Therein, he outpointed Truax but failed to look impressive.

Shortly after, he vacated his IBF Super Middleweight title. Regarding that decision he went on to say this:

“I’m in the final phase of my career where I have a few good years left where I can be involved in massive fights and really leave a legacy in the division’s history.”

Is it possible that one “massive fight” DeGale is alluding to is a potential showdown with Rocky Fielding?
