Zhilei Zhang Stops Deontay Wilder In Round Five
In a must-win situation, Zhilei “Big Bang” Zhang (27-2-1, 21KO) stopped one-time WBC heavyweight champion Deontay “The Bronze Bomber” Wilder (43-4-1, 42KO).
In the beginning, there wasn’t much happening in the fight as both fighters threw few punches to avoid making a mistake. However, Zhang was able to land a few solid left hands.
Wilder still looked gun-shy as he refused to throw the right hand. He kept going to the ropes and got rocked a few times by Zhang.
In round four, The Bronze Bomber finally got the right hand going and stunned Zhang. He started coming forward, looking for the stoppage as he seemed to have finally woken up.
Yet, Wilder’s momentum was short-lived, as Zhang landed a counter left hook that turned Wilder in a complete circle. Seeing his opponent dazed, Big Bang landed a punishing left hand that almost flatlined the Alabama native.
The referee waved off the fight despite Wilder getting up. Zhang may have brought an end to the one-time champion’s career. In this author’s opinion, it’s over for The Bronze Bomber, who has lost that once-menacing presence.
