Derrick James Says Spence v Crawford Unlikely Due to Money

The undisputed welterweight showdown between unified champion Errol “The Truth” Spence (28-0, 22KO), and WBO champion Terence “Bud” Crawford (38-0, 29KO) remains the most disappointing missed opportunity of 2022. Now, according to Derrick James, 2023 is not likely to see the fight either.

WILL SPENCE VERSUS CRAWFORD HAPPEN?

During an interview with The Last Stand Podcast, Spence Jr’s trainer, Derrick James, explained why the fight may not happen in 2023.

“I think that it may not happen. Because, remember, his perspective of who he is is something totally different than what those numbers say. Those things are not going to add up, and he shouldn’t think any less of himself. But, in reality, we have to understand what the market says, and the market said NO!”

James is referring to Crawford’s successful title defense on Pay-Per-View against David Avanesyan on the BLK Prime app. Although no official numbers were released, BLK Prime issued an arbitrary statement saying the PPV did better than initial expectations.

Spence, in an interview, claimed that he would revisit the fight at a later date. This prompted Crawford to take to social media, making it clear he will be waiting. The boxing community is hoping that the fight does take place in 2023.
