Haney Alerts 140-pound Champions he Wants to be Undisputed
WBC junior welterweight champion Devin “The Dream” Haney (31-0, 15KO) is looking to collect the belts from WBA champion Rolando “Rolly” Romero, IBF champion Subriel “El Orgullo De Maternillo” Matias, and WBO champion “The “Takeover” Teofimo Lopez.
While speaking with fans on social media, The Dream expressed a change of heart about wanting to chase undisputed.
Haney is a former undisputed lightweight champion who became a two-divisional champion after defeating two-time champion Regis Prograis. Many boxing fans wondered if going for undisputed was on his agenda, given how hard it could be to get some of the champions in the ring.
THE PATH TO UNDISPUTED
Rolly (15-1, 13KO) once was chasing a Haney fight before turning it down to face Gervonta Davis. In May 2023, he grabbed the vacant WBA title via a controversial decision against Ismael Barroso. He is due to face one-time lightweight challenger Isaac Cruz on March 30.
El Orgullo De Maternillo (20-1, 20KO) would be the other champion Haney would have to fight. This fight would be easy to make, considering they both fight under the Matchroom Boxing umbrella. The hard-punching Puerto Rican has gone after the WBC champion, referring to him as a chicken that runs in the ring.
The Takeover (20-1, 13KO) has a long history with The Dream. The two have exchanged heated words on social media in the past. The Takeover has displayed a dismissive attitude at times when it comes to the WBC champion. Lately, he’s been heavily campaigning for a fight with unified welterweight champion Terence Crawford.
Haney’s path toward undisputed isn’t going to be easy, but he must first take care of business against Ryan Garcia on April 20.
