WBA Super Welterweight female champion Hanna Gabriels (19-2-1, 11KO), has just signed a promotional contract with DiBella Entertainment.

Gabriels, a 36 year-old Costa Rican boxer, is coming off a title defense against Sarah Dwyer on January 26. This news is off the heel of the victory and is a great opportunity for the woman called “La Amazona Black.”

The female champion got a chance to show fans the extent of her skills in a match against unified middleweight champion Claressa Shields; putting her on the canvas for the first time in her career, while making her American debut.

3kingsboxing was able to speak to Gabriels about the signing and what this means for her career.

Quote From Gabriels

“I can tell you that I am so excited! I feel so blessed it’s that my experience keeps being a testimony for those people who think it’s too late to achieve their dreams and goals. That they have wasted enough time to be able to get what they want.

“It’s an example of how commitment, hard work, patience and faith works with you! God is so big and great with me. I feel honored and I can’t wait to fight. I can’t wait to show my skills and for people to acknowledge the value of what we as women can bring to boxing.

“I feel privileged to be able to contribute to [women’s boxing] developing. My commitment is 100% and my motivation is through the roof right now. I’m just hoping I can do so much more. I’m so excited really.”

It truly is a testament to how hard work pays off. Especially considering Gabriels only had one amateur fight before turning pro and reaching the highest level of the sport.

Lou DiBella, President of DiBella Entertainment, has been a vocal advocate and supporter for women’s boxing. Signing a fighter of this caliber was foreseeable and more fans will get to see the champion fighting in the US.

The champion has expressed wanting to unify against fellow welterweight champion Cecilia Breakhus and rematch Claressa Shields.
