Dmitry Bivol Signs With Main Events

Bivol To Be Co-Promoted

Earlier today 3KingsBoxing.com was told that WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol has agreed to a promotional deal with Kathy Duva’s Main Events Promotions. The move adds Bivol to an already stacked stable at the 175lb division for Duva.

Main Events is the promoter for two potential opponents for Bivol in former light heavyweight kingpin Sergey Kovalev, who is headlining tonight’s card on HBO against Vyacheslav Shabranskyy for the vacant WBO title. Duva also promotes Bivol’s possible mandatory Sullivan Barrera. Barrera is also on tonight’s card against Felix Valera and the winner is expected to be made Bivol’s mandatory. Bivol has already defeated Valera by a lopsided decision back in May 2016 for the interim WBA title.

Bivol will remain with Andrei Ryabinsky and World of Boxing as well. Main Events will work with Ryabinsky to promote Bivol’s US interest. It’s an interesting move due to Ryabinsky stating he himself really doesn’t want Bivol to fight Kovalev. It can only lead us to be believe that if Barrera wins tonight that Bivol vs Barrera must be coming next. Either way the move can only help us to get closer to a unified champion in the division once again after Andre Ward left all but the WBC title vacant wit his retirement back in September.
