Dominic Valle Nabs A Solid Win Over Kevin Piedrahita
In a junior lightweight battle, undefeated prospect Dominic Valle (10-0, 7KO) picked up a good win against Kevin “Dinamita” Piedrahita (9-3, 8KO).
Valle started out fighting smart, working behind the jab and using the distance to keep the fight in the center of the ring. But, he got slightly over-aggressive and decided to stand and trade with the smaller man. This error in judgment resulted in him getting caught with an overhand right.
As the fight continued, Valle adjusted behind the jab and applied a solid body attack to slow Dinamita’s forward aggression. In addition, he used the angles to land right hands and uppercuts, taking advantage of his opponent’s lack of footwork. Despite getting caught with repeated body shots, combination punches, and uppercuts, Piedrahita rocked Valle with powerful overhand rights.
In the final rounds, Piedrahita fought like a pit bull, throwing punches like a Tasmanian devil. Valle didn’t back down and returned fire with more painful uppercuts and body shots. When the final bell sounded, one judge saw it 78-74, and two had it 79-73, in favor of Valle. It was a good win against a game opponent for the undefeated fighter, who showed true grit down the stretch.
