Nonito Donaire begins preparations for Naoya Inoue!
Nonito Donaire has started preparations for the finals of the WBSS bantamweight tournament finals against upcoming opponent Naoya Inoue. During an interview with PhilStar Global, Rachel Donaire, the wife of Nonito said he “has been in camp” working to prepare for Inoue.
The current WBA super bantamweight champion, Donaire advanced to the finals by stopping Stefon Young in six rounds on April 27. Donaire witnessed firsthand Inoue’s semifinal bout, a two-round destruction of Emanuel Rodriguez on May 18th in Belfast, Ireland. Inoue is the current WBA/IBF bantamweight champion.
The 36-year old, four-division world champion is currently readying himself to face arguably the most explosive fighter in the sport. Even so, it is still unknown when and where the WBSS bantamweight finals will take place.
“We’re waiting for confirmation from Richard (Schaefer) when and where the fight will be held,” said Rachel Donaire. While there is still no official announcement, look for the fight to take place sometime this Fall.
Kalle Sauerland, Chief Boxing Officer for WBSS creators Comosa AG, has stated the finals of the WBSS will take place either in September, October or November with London, Macau, and Tokyo being the leading contenders to land the fight during a recent interview with RingTV.
With Donaire currently in training, along with the comments of Sauerland, that tells you an announcement is imminent. As always, stay tuned in to 3KingBoxing for any developments regarding this upcoming showdown.
