Daniel Dubois Follows Floyd Schofield In Riyadh Card Withdrawal

In another dose of sour boxing news, IBF heavyweight champion “Dynamite” Daniel Dubois (22-2, 21 KO’s) has pulled out of his upcoming bout with interim WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker (35-3, 23 KO’s). The heavy-handed bruiser was sidelined by an undisclosed illness. Dubois is now the second fighter to abruptly withdraw from the highly anticipated The Last Crescendo card in Riyadh due to illness. Floyd Schofield was the first.

Dynamite was looking for his fourth win since suffering his second professional loss to unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk. In his losses to Usyk and Joe Joyce, he was branded a quitter by a large segment of the fanbase. After the Usyk defeat however, Dynamite picked up impressive wins over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and Anthony Joshua.

All three of those victories came by way of knockout. Collecting Parker’s scalp would have been impressive, especially if Dubois stopped him within the distance.

SAVED BY THE BELL

While Dynamite’s misfortune was a buzzkill for many, Team Schofield should be overjoyed with relief. When Floyd Schofield initially pulled out of the fight, his father hopped on social media blaming his opponent Shakur Stevenson directly. He alleged that a massage lady’s debilitating moisturizer required him to be rushed to the hospital.

Immediately, no one believed the outrageous story. Furthermore, Team Schofield had already flooded social media with a number of tall tales. The boxing world had had enough and was not hearing any more. Now that Dubois has also fallen ill, there is now a glimmer of hope that Schofield will not be outright labeled a total fraud.

Nevertheless, both men will want to get in the ring as soon as possible. Yet, in Schofield’s case, the situation is a bit more dire. Ironically, similar to Dubois’ recent situation, Schofield now has to prove that he is a serious professional fighter and not just a loudmouth sideshow.
