Frank Warren targeting Fall for Dubois v Joyce
Before the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the United States causing everything to be placed on hold, boxing was eagerly excited about a match-up featuring two of the best heavyweight prospects in the world.
Scheduled for April 11 was supposed to be a showdown between two hard hitters, with Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (14-0, 13KOs) taking on Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (10-0, 9KOs) in a clash of unbeaten prospects. Both would be vying for bigger opportunities in their pursuit for world title glory in the future. Instead, those plans were scrapped.
NEW TARGET DATE
With things slowly getting back to “normal”, boxing is gearing up for its return, as plans are in motion to start staging live fights again. The promoter for both men, Frank Warren, is in the process of looking for Fall dates for this big domestic showdown.
The MTK Global head honcho is looking to stage their battle in the month of either September or October. He’s also hopeful that this fight will be able to have fans in attendance. This seems like a long shot at the moment in time due to the COVID-19 pandemic and how easily it’s spreads.
BACKUP PLAN
If this fight isn’t able to be showcased in front of fans, Warren floated out the possibility that both Dubois and Joyce may take interim fights instead, that would take place behind closed doors. This would allow time for treatments and vaccines to be developed, and thereby reduce the likelihood of the disease spreading further.
Needless to say, even with boxing coming back, nothing is for certain. This will truly be on a fight-by-fight basis. Let’s hope that we get Dubois V Joyce this year instead of in 2021.
