Could we see Joe Joyce take on Daniel Dubois with Marco Huck’s injury?
On December 21, popular UK heavyweight prospect Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (14-0, 13 KO’s) picked up his fourteenth win and thirteenth knockout. This also marked his fifth knockout of 2019!
He did so when he violently dispatched his over-matched foe, Kyotaro Fujimoto (21-2, 13 KO’s), in the second round. Despite the knockout being what most expected, Dubois managed to look poised, patient and very accurate.
In the immediate aftermath of the bout, a potential showdown between Dubois and fellow rising heavyweight Joe “Juggernaut” Joyce (10-0, 9 KO’s) was raised. Both fighters and their promoters were on hand and on camera.
Not one to waste the opportunity, Dynamite’s promoter, Frank Warren, boldly declared that they wanted Joyce in their next outing.
When Warren made his claim, the Juggernaut was not available as he had an upcoming match with “Kapt’n” Marco Huck (41-5-1, 28 KO’s) scheduled January 11.
This is no longer the case. It has recently become public knowledge that Huck has been forced to withdraw from the fight due to suffering a hand injury. Stripped of his dance partner, Joyce is now free and clear to make a bout with Dubois.
WILL THEY SCRAP?
Given how relatively early it is in their respective careers, a prizefight at this point would be a big and bold move. Each have garnered an impressive following and both are forecasted to have very bright futures. A loss at this point, especially a devastating one, would prove to be a major setback.
It will be interesting to see how much faith their promoters actually have in their charges. Now that that the Huck v Joyce bout is no longer an obstacle, will Joyce v Dubois be legitimized? Of course a loss would not be ideal for either, but nor is it murder.
Andy Ruiz Jr, Dillian Whyte and, most recently, Anthony Joshua have all suffered losses in the division. Yet, in spite of these losses all of them have managed to secure meaningful fights after their defeats.
Regardless of who wins, or loses, Joyce and Dubois would still be viewed as two of the division’s top up and coming boxers. The fight also has every potential to be one exciting bout in the ring.
3kingsboxing will stay on top of this intriguing potential story line.
