Daniel Dubois Looking to Break Anthony Joshua!
In his next tour of duty, IBF heavyweight champion Daniel “Dynamite” Dubois (21-2, 20 KO’s), on paper, is set to face his most rigorous slugfest to date. In that September 21 duel, Dubois will face rough-knuckled, two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (28-3, 25 KO’s). Yet as he shared with Sky Sports, more than simply beating him, Dynamite has designs on shoveling a healthy amount of dishonor on his name.
“I’ve got to make him quit; break him down. That’s my mindset going into this. Making him quit – I believe I can!”
SPINNING FANCY TABLES
There is little doubt that this sinister ambition stems from the public hazing that he’s been force fed over the past few years of his career. In each of his two professional losses, at the hands of Joe Joyce and Oleksandr Usyk, a healthy section of the boxing populace classified him as a quitter. Rather than soldiering through the adversity, as many thought he should, Dubois opted to bow out to fight another day.
For these decisions, Dynamite has had to twice climb a sturdy mountain of criticism to get to his present precipice. Since the Usyk loss, Dubois has defeated Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic, both by way of knockout. It was all the more sweet having picked up the IBF title with the spoils of the Hrgovic scalping. Now, his vindictive gaze is turned toward Joshua.
REPEAT FOR A REASON
If the IBF champion can beat AJ, he will garner a whole new respect from the boxing fans. Yet, if Dubois can somehow force AJ to throw in the towel, then his stock will surely skyrocket. Clearly however, this is a task far easier said than done.
To this point, Joshua has only been bested by two men – Usyk and Andy Ruiz. He lost back-to-back narrowly fought contests with Usyk, after being stopped and then stopping Ruiz in concurrent encounters. Of his 28 victories, only three opponents heard the final bell. Seasoned in battle with fighters the likes of Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker, Alexander Povetkin and the aforementioned Oleksandr Usyk, he is well traveled.
Just like Dubois, Joshua has felt the lash of criticism and doubt by turncoat fans and an unforgiving media. Without question, this proven champion is not looking to take any backsteps in this rumble, either. So let’s see what tricks and brutality Dynamite can unleash in the ring to make his brash claim a living reality.
“I’m turning it round now, at this stage of my career. I’ve come through my ups and downs, just turning it round. Enjoying the moment, let all the talking be done, let all the statements be made. I’m in a good place now and I’m ready to fight.”
