Eddie Hearn Believes Tyson Fury is Ducking Oleksandr Usyk
For the last several weeks the boxing world has watched as Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte have struggled to construct a mutually satisfactory contract. Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (28-2, 19 KO’s) is the mandatory challenger for WBC heavyweight champion Tyson “The Gypsy Kings’ Fury’s (31-0-1, 22 KO’s) title.
Despite chasing this very opportunity for years, word on the street is that the Whyte is holding up production by asking for an unreasonable amount of money.
Now, however, Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn reveals how Fury himself could be at the root of the current dilemma. This is because Hearn insists that the WBC champion squandered an opportunity to face unified heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk minus any hindrances. Yet, as Hearn told IFL TV, Fury knowingly and consciously swerved the Ukrainian pugilist.
“Fury don’t want to fight Usyk in my opinion because he had the opportunity to do it before these discussions and really when it came down to it he really don’t want to. What Fury wants to do is have a little easy one in March, that’s what he really wants to do.
“The reality is that Tyson Fury is the one who has decided really that he doesn’t want to fight Usyk next. Whether he tells you that or not, that is the truth! He was not willing to fight Oleksandr Usyk next for undisputed because he wanted to fight first in March against someone else. Now he wants to fight Dillian Whyte. He changes his mind every day!”
DROWNING IN LITIGATION
It would be rather regrettable if it’s true that Usyk and Fury missed the chance to do battle. Not only would they make for a great bout, their match would have crowned the next undisputed heavyweight champion. So, with the scene set as it is, we must now wait on the Whyte versus Fury and Anthony Joshua versus Usyk contracts to be drawn up.
Sadly, neither seem to be all that close to being finalized. Luckily, no matter how long it takes to resolve these issues, 3kingsboxing will be there to report the news!
