Eddie Hearn Expects Canelo vs Benavidez Fight Down The Line

Matchroom Boxing Promoter Eddie Hearn believes that undisputed super middleweight champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez will fight two-time WBC champion David Benavidez, in the future.

Benavidez was dubbed “The Mexican Monster” on Hall of Fame Inductee Mike Tyson’s podcast called Hotboxin. The name caught on and spread like a virus on an unprotected computer. After defeating longtime rival and former IBF champion Caleb Plant, The Mexican Monster is focused on fighting the undisputed champion.

Instantly, fans compared the performance of when Canelo stopped Plant to Benavidez’s victory. While speaking with Fight Hub TV, Canelo recognized the two-time champion’s talent but believes he is still a level above.

EDDIE HEARN BELIEVES CANELO VS BENAVIDEZ CAN HAPPEN

So, the boxing community wonders if or when we will see them fight. During an interview with Fight Hub TV, Hearn was candid about the two of them fighting in the future while claiming that Canelo should be called “The Mexican Monster”.

“David Benavidez, The Mexican Monster – not quite. It’s only one Mexican Monster, and he knocked Caleb Plant out . . . there’s a lot of comparison about Canelo’s fight and Benavidez’s fight. I think both fighters were dominating the fight, but Canelo was too heavy-handed for Caleb Plant and knocked him out.

“The Benavidez fight for Canelo Alvarez is, you know, is almost a certainty in the future.”

Hearn stated that although Alvarez would be willing to fight Benavidez after John Ryder, his main focus is a rematch with WBA light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol in September.

The fact that Benavidez is being talked about by Team Canelo is a good sign. Once upon a time, the undisputed champion wasn’t mentioning his name because he brought nothing to the table. Now, the two-time champion has been creating a serious buzz around his name to the point fans inside the boxing community are calling for a fight.
