Eddie Hearn Now Optimistic the Joshua vs Whyte Rematch Will Happen

The back-and-forth continues regarding a potential rematch between two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) and perennial contender Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (29-3, 19 KOs). After the fight appeared dead in the water, promoter Eddie Hearn thinks it stands a good chance of happening.

Following Joshua’s win over Jermain Franklin in April 2023, Hearn revealed that a second fight between Joshua and Whyte was being seriously discussed. But on June 16, Whyte reportedly turned it down because he felt the offer was insultingly low.

NOT SO FAST

Now it appears that Whyte has had a change of heart. The Body Snatcher has been making the media rounds saying he’s willing to accept the initial offer. Speaking to UK media outlet iFL TV, Hearn provided an update.

“I sent them (representatives for Whyte) an email and said, ‘do you take the deal’, and they said, ‘yes’. So, I said ‘great, we will send you a contract . . . If the offer is acceptable, the fight is on’, and they said the contract is acceptable . . . We will see if that is the case, and if that is the case, that’s the fight we want.”

Joshua and Whyte previously fought in December 2015. AJ stopped Whyte in seven exciting rounds in a fight that saw both men get hurt. Whyte has always wanted his chance at revenge. If all parties agree to the terms, Hearn says Joshua – Whyte II will happen on August 12 in London, England. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for additional updates.
