Eddie Hearn Predicts a One-Punch Knockout in Artur Beterbiev vs Callum Smith!
On August 19, Callum “Mundo” Smith (29-1, 21 KOs) has a chance to become a two-division world champion. To do so, he’s going to have to beat arguably the best light heavyweight in the world, unified champion Artur Beterbiev (19-0, 19 KOs). Beterbiev not only has a perfect record, but he also has a 100 percent knockout ratio, having stopped all nineteen of his opponents.
However, with that being said, that hasn’t stopped Smith’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, from making a bold prediction on the upcoming championship fight. Speaking to the media in the aftermath of the Edgar Berlanga Jr. and Jason Quigley fight, he said the following:
“Callum Smith is going to knock Beterbiev spark-out! You know, like a face-down knockout? Sometimes you see it, right? He’s going to be up against the ropes, and Beterbiev is going to come in like he does, and he’s going to square up his feet, and Callum’s going to do what he does best, which is catch counter with the left hook. One-punch knockout!”
Most people reading this will quickly dismiss Hearn, and understandably so. However, Smith is a talented fighter with only one loss on his record to undisputed 168-pound champion Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. If he’s able to withstand the crazy power the hard-hitting champ possesses and effectively box, using his jab to control the distance and be effective offensively, he may be able to pull off a huge upset.
