Eddie Hearn Says Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano Rematch Is Low Priority
Undisputed lightweight champion Katie “KT” Taylor’s (22-1, 6KO) rematch with undisputed featherweight Amanda “The Real Deal” Serrano (44-2-1, 30KO) may never happen. Matchroom Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn says all focus is on the rematch with undisputed junior lightweight champion Chantelle “Il Capo” Cameron (18-0, 8KO).
After their epic first encounter in April 2022, Taylor and Serrano were set to run it back in Ireland on May 20. However, The Real Deal had to withdraw from the fight due to an injury.
This set the wheels in motion that saw Cameron jump in and defeat Taylor, getting revenge for an amateur loss. Afterward, the undisputed lightweight champion instantly called for a rematch.
EDDIE HEARN IS NOT LOOKING TO RULE OUT TAYLOR VS SERRANO REMATCH
Is the Serrano rematch even an option anymore? Hearn spoke to iFL TV and was not looking to rule out the Serrano rematch. Yet, he acknowledged that it’s not a top priority.
“I mean right now, the Serrano fight is off the table. You know it’s just all focused on the rematch with Chantelle Cameron. It’s not a case of that fight will never happen . . . I feel like the Serrano fight is definitely on the backburner for now. But we’ll see what happens.”
It’s unlikely they will rematch this year as both women will be busy. The rematch with Chantelle Cameron may take place in the fall. In addition, Serrano is set to defend the titles against Heather Hardy on August 5. Furthermore, boxing fans have somewhat lost interest in seeing a Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano rematch. It will be interesting to see what happens after they are done with their respective matches.
