Eddie Hearn Says Dillian Whyte has an Offer to Rematch Anthony Joshua

The back-and-forth continues regarding a proposed August 12 between two-time heavyweight champion Anthony “AJ” Joshua (25-3, 22 KOs) and Dillian “The Body Snatcher” Whyte (29-3, 19 KOs). Here’s the latest update. According to promoter Eddie Hearn, an offer for the fight is on the table. Hearn disclosed the news during an interview with the British news outlet, The BBC.

“The offer was made to Dillian over the weekend. We are waiting for his response to that and we’ll talk today. Dillian has a lot of value in the rematch. This is not an opponent for Joshua, but a big fight between two world-class heavyweights and huge British names. The negotiations will be difficult, but both AJ and Whyte want the fight.”

STEP ONE OF A BIGGER PLAN

Joshua has been out of action since a unanimous decision win over Jermain Franklin on April 1. There have been rumblings of a December showdown between Joshua and former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder in the Middle East. But Hearn stressed that from the get-go, the plan was for Joshua to fight this summer before possibly facing Wilder.

Joshua recently went to social media claiming he was uninterested in a second fight with Whyte. But the comments from Hearn suggest that AJ was either lying or had a change of heart.

The two rivals previously fought in December 2015 in what turned out to be an entertaining scrap. After getting hurt in the early rounds, Joshua recovered and ultimately stopped Whyte in seven. For years, Whyte has wanted another shot with AJ.

At this stage of their careers, Joshua and Whyte are older and have had their share of setbacks. But should the rematch occur, it’s a big fight in Great Britain. Stay tuned to 3kingsboxing.com for any further updates.
