Frank Martin and William Zepeda Could Battle for the WBA Title If Haney Vacates

In the lightweight division, there is a fight that has a good chance of becoming a reality featuring top WBA contenders William “Camaron” Zepeda (28-0, 24KO) and Frank “The Ghost” Martin (17-0, 12KO).

The division is on pause as everyone awaits to see what undisputed champion Devin “The Dream” Haney plans on doing next. After defeating multi-divisional champion Vasyl Lomachenko on May 20, Haney has entertained the idea of possibly re-signing with Eddie Hearn of Matchroom Boxing to fight WBC junior welterweight champion Regis Prograis.

Should Haney vacate the titles, the door opens for Golden Boy Promotions and Premier Boxing Champions to work together again.

AN EXCELLENT BATTLE OF STYLES

Martin’s career is guided under the watchful eye of the unified welterweight champion Errol Spence. The Ghost has not been in the ring since defeating Michel Rivera in December 2022.

Camaron fights under the Golden Boy banner and holds the top spot in the WBA. On April 29, the hard-hitting Mexican made quick work of Jaime Arboleda in front of a rambunctious Texas crowd. Following Zepeda’s victory over Arboleda, Frank Martin approached Team Zepeda directly for a fight.

This is a mouth-watering fight that would feature two high-level combatants of contrasting styles. Zepeda is a power puncher that loves to attack the body and is extremely effective when fighting on the front foot. Martin’s footwork is top-notch, and he operates well at close range by providing angles before ripping painful combinations. Boxing fans should not be surprised if this fight hits the schedule for the title.
